3la were appointed for landscape design services for the discharge of landscape planning conditions for the replacement dwelling and garage outbuilding on the edge of Ampfield, Hampshire.
The context of the site can be best described as within a woodland clearing. The arts & crafts inspired replacement dwelling will stand proud within the extensive site, surrounded by mature woodland vegetation, screening views or neighbouring properties. To the northern end of the site is an existing swimming pool which will be refurbished and incorporating into the garden design proposals.
Feature ornamental planting will be focused adjacent to the house and the various terraces to the rear garden providing colourful perennials and dramatic grasses which will help to add colour and sensory qualities. These communities will also provide a colourful under-storey planting palette for the specimen architectural multi-stem trees and structural shrubs.
On arrival to the garden flanked by the existing shrubby vegetation where we are proposing an extension to the woodland edge, filtering the views through to the house from the driveway. Swathes of flowering meadow grassland will be integrated to the vast front garden lawns, the mowing regime can be varied to suit the tastes of the client - perhaps some parts remain short with taller areas transitioning towards the planted areas. The introduction of a varied grass and flower sward will bring substantial biodiversity improvements as will the wider planting introductions.
