Sarisbury Green Private Garden
Fareham, Hampshire
3la has been commissioned to deliver landscape design services to fulfill planning conditions related to the construction of a detached single-story dwelling with a swimming pool.
The landscape design centers on the central courtyard, aiming to integrate the design proposals from formal to informal within the broader landscape. The proposals endeavor to establish and augment the natural setting of the landscape, embedding the constructed form next to the mature woodland. They aim to offer a modern central courtyard, combining hard and soft landscaping materials to forge intimate spaces for diverse functions. Additionally, they intend to filter and screen views from the house and within the courtyard, both near and far, through strategically positioned planting typologies, and to deliver an impactful yet low-maintenance planting scheme throughout the garden.
The development site is located at the fringe of a woodland, offering a natural ambiance with mature trees within and beyond the property. Consequently, the landscaping approach across the site should complement the existing terrain. The ornamental planting will be concentrated near the house and in the courtyard garden, while the broader landscape will seamlessly integrate with the adjacent woodlands. The entrance to the property will feature neatly trimmed lawn edges transitioning into expanses of wildflower meadows, providing a striking approach to the house in the warmer seasons.
Upon arrival at the house, ornamental planting beds will soften the edges of the parking area and the house's northern facade. The courtyard garden will feature planting beds and multi-stem ornamental trees to delineate and create distinct zones for various functions. A mix of evergreen and deciduous shrubs, along with sun-loving and shade-tolerant perennials, will be strategically placed to add structure and seasonal color. Beyond the courtyard, a neatly mown lawn will transition into a wildflower meadow and woodland, offering expansive usable garden space. Single stem feature trees will be strategically placed to frame and enhance views of the surrounding landscape. At the back of the property, a proposed intimate courtyard will include recessed seating encircled by a lush planting bed, featuring architecturally significant plants with large, unique foliage.
